Mastorisses

A unique exhibition showcasing high fashion and jewellery bridal pieces by Andrea Rotsaki and Souzana Petri. In response to a collection of memoirs from local craftswomen, the artists developed a poetic conversation with the reminiscent journeys, traditions and the values which have been passed on from generation to generation, shaping local culture as is known today. Spanning the period from the 1920’s until the 1990’s, the artists paid homage to these powerful women, their cultural contexts, and intricate traditional crafting techniques by creating a series of showpieces aiming to highlight, preserve and progress further its beautiful lineage with the past. The exhibit presented wedding dresses, formal wear, headpieces and jewellery in a collaborative process between the two artists that aimed to celebrate the hidden or lost remnants of local art and the craft of fashion production.
